Manchester United launch opening £40million bid to sign Serie A man: report

Manchester United have launched an opening bid of around £40million for Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam as they look to sign a full-back in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Italian media outlet Radio Kiss Kiss, per TeamTalk. Apparently, the offer went in ‘over the last few hours’ with both Manchester City and Liverpool also keen on the Algeria star.

Ghoulam, 27, is predominantly a left-back, which makes little sense to me. Luke Shaw is in the form of his life right now, why on earth would United want to disturb that by bringing someone in?

If anything, United should be looking for help on the right-hand side as Diogo Dalot is still young and learning. Perhaps that’s the plan where Ghoulam is concerned, but he’s left-footed so I’m not sure that’d make too much sense.

The man from Algeria is demanding over £100,000-a-week to make the switch to the Theatre of Dreams, which would see him more than double his current wages. Ghoulam would be joining United in his peak years. We all know Jose Mourinho loves the experienced, ready-made player, but honestly, I’d much rather see that money spent elsewhere.

This one certainly gets a no from me…
