Manchester United were seemingly content to take a point away from Anfield last night, and they certainly have David de Gea to thank for that. The Spaniard was back to his brilliant best once again, and it was truly great to see him leap through the air like we’ve become accustomed to over the years.
As the game against Liverpool wore on, the pressure was mounting on the United back four, but when you have a man like David de Gea in goal, it certainly relieves some of that stress.
The Spain #1 made a truly world class save to keep Manchester United level as Emre Can managed to bundle through, and as the ball looked passed him, he stretched to keep Liverpool at bay.
He wasn’t done there, though. Philippe Coutinho found himself in plenty of space late on, and tried to rip one into the top corner as we’ve seen before. David de Gea wasn’t going to let that happen last night however, as he dove to his left and made another truly world class save.
Those stops were seemingly appreciated greatly by one of his former teammates in Rio Ferdinand, who sent out an absolutely brilliant tweet shortly after, in which he labelled him the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
