Manchester United Football Club got an all-important victory under their belt against Burnley last time out. At the very least, it bought Jose Mourinho time.
The self-proclaimed Special One has come under heavy fire from the media recently, after a run of bad results coupled with a style of play that’s, shall we say, not so easy on the eye…
His tactics are all well and good when the results are going your way. However, when you’re not winning, the style is critiqued quite heavily. However, former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has had his say on the situation.
The Great Dae has urged the fans, board and pretty much everyone to give Mourinho his full backing. After all, the Portuguese coach has won pretty much everything there is to win in the game, perhaps all he needs is time.
‘He’s been at great clubs,’ the legendary goalkeeper told Sky Sports, per The Metro. ‘Real Madrid, Inter Milan. He won the Champions League with Porto. Three Premier League titles with Chelsea.’
‘He’s done so many great things in football. But Manchester United is a different level to anything. The scrutiny, the traditions and the history that we have. ‘This is in the equation every day. Every single day, we respect our history. We have very proud traditions.’
‘We finished runners-up last season from fifth the campaign before. We’re straight into the Champions League this year, we won the Europa League and we’ve been in two FA Cup finals.
‘This is great. Yes we strive for more, but these are very positive things. ‘When we give him time and patience, when we understand this is a period in which we have to develop, we can win the Premier League.’
After all, the great Sir Alex Ferguson was just one game from losing his job. It’s in this club’s DNA to persist with the manager and let him fix their problems. I don’t think it’s surprising to see clubs like AFC Bournemouth, who have kept faith in Eddie Howe, flourishing at this point in time. Longevity is key.
Mourinho is still the greatest manager in the Premier League right now. His legacy is plain for all to see. Sure, it would have been great if we’d already won a Premier League title under his guidance heading into this season, but obviously, that hasn’t happened.
Now, it’s time for us to give him our full backing for as long as he remains manager.
