Victor Lindelof hasn’t made the best of starts to life at Old Trafford. However, he could be about to get a small boost, with Manchester United linked with a move for his international centre-back partner, Andreas Granqvist.
That’s according to Fotboll Direkt, per talkSPORT, who say that United are keeping tabs on the 33-year-old, with a view to making a move in January.
Central defence has become a real issue for the Red Devils. Jose Mourinho teams never leak goals… In fact, we’ve already shipped three strikes on three occasions already. That’s just not good enough, particularly if you’re wanting to challenge for several major honours.
Is Granqvist the answer? I’m not so sure. His only season in England came at Wigan Athletic a decade ago. He struggled massively. Sure, his career has only headed upwards since then, but I’d have my concerns.
Then you have to factor in that he isn’t getting any younger. This would be a majorly short-term fix. You’d get twelve-to-eighteen months out of him at the very most. What’s the point in bringing him in if he’ll need replacing in a summer or two? It seems too big-of-a-gamble to take right now. I’d love to see United move for a Premier League proven centre-back instead. If it means waiting until next summer, then so be it.
