Manchester United Football Club have been renowned for producing young talents from their academy.
It’s a mantra that I thought would have taken a step back under Jose Mourinho, while in fact, youth development is flourishing with Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford proudly flying the flag.
Arguably the best talent from the current crop is Andreas Pereira, who has spent this season out on loan with Valencia CF. The Brazilian is loving life out in Spain (heck, who wouldn’t?), playing a huge part in their season.
Now Pereira has admitted just how flattered he is, following the fact that the loan club has enquired about buying him on a permanent basis.
“Valencia approached my agent and said they want to buy me which is flattering, but it wasn’t like it was reported in the media,” Pereira told the South China Morning Post.
“People said I’d demanded talks with Jose Mourinho when I’ve demanded nothing. The Valencia coach speaks with me a lot and we have a good understanding, but as far as I’m concerned I’m still a Manchester United player, with a contract at Old Trafford until 2020 and an ambition to make it at United. I’ve never sought to leave United.”
It’s nice to see that Pereira still harbours hopes at making it at Old Trafford. He should take inspiration from the aforementioned McTominay who made it breakthrough out of absolutely nowhere earlier this term.
Then you have to look at pre-season. No doubt Pereira will head out on tour with the senior squad once again, which provides him with an excellent opportunity to stake his claim.
The good thing about the Brazilian is that he can play on either wing, in the #10 role or even deeper if the manager so chooses; which is where he may find his chances due to the fact that it’s looking like Marouane Fellaini will leave, while Michael Carrick is hanging up his boots.
