Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have been adamant all summer that we’d only see four new arrivals during this window. Last week, the club confirmed the arrival of Paul Pogba, who was our fourth signing under our new manager.
However, that may not be the case anymore, and we could well see a fifth player coming through the entrance doors at the Theatre of Dreams.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who say that Jose Mourinho has made contact with Southampton about the possibility of bringing Jose Fonte to the club.
Fonte, 32, is a Portuguese defender who thoroughly impressed during the European Championships – and has been an integral part of the setup at Southampton for years now.
He’d certainly bring some experience to a very young back line, and he’s more than capable of playing at the required level at Manchester United. His age means you’ll only get a couple of years out of him, but it’s definitely a move that is worth making – particularly when you factor in that we’ll be without Eric Bailly when he goes off to the African Cup of Nations.
