Manchester United make Luke Shaw bid

Manchester United have made a huge £27m bid for Southampton teenage sensation Luke Shaw, according to Sky Sports News. The 18-year old, who is expected to be named in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad later today, has had a sensational season for the Saints.

Having played in 33 of Southampton’s games at left-back this season, Shaw has emerged has one of the best English prospects in the Premier League. He certainly proved that yesterday, keeping the elusive Adnan Januzaj very quiet in yesterdays meeting between United and Southampton.

He has speed, a footballing brain and excellent defensive skills. Whilst the transfer fee could be deemed steep, it could prove to be the total opposite if he becomes our first choice left-back for the next fifteen years – similar to the career path of Wayne Rooney.

I’d be more than happy if we made Shaw our first signing of the summer. With Patrice Evra ageing and losing his pace, a new left-back this summer is crucial. Shaw is English which is always a bonus, and he certainly has the talent to succeed if he keeps his feet firmly on the ground.
