Manchester United manager gives injury update on midfield duo

Manchester United struggled to a 1-0 victory at home to Sheffield United on Saturday evening, and to add to the misery, the club are now set to be without a couple of key midfielders as Louis van Gaal prepares his side to take on Newcastle.

“It shall be difficult of course [for Schweinsteiger to face Newcastle].” Louis van Gaal began.

“I don’t know yet but I think he has a knee problem. Everyone thinks he has an ankle problem but I think it’s more the knee than the ankle. We’ll have to wait and see.”

The United manager was then asked about Schneiderlin: “Schneiderlin is not injured but he’s in the red zone and had an overload. In the Christmas period, he played every game and we have to take care of that.”

These two were brought in over the summer to sure up our midfield, and to lose them both at the same time will be bitterly disappointing. Schneiderlin could well play in the game if Louis van Gaal deems him fit enough, but we could well be looking at a duo of Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick marshalling the back four.
