It seems like the Breel Embolo transfer saga is over before it even begun. The young Swiss forward was linked with a move to Manchester United last week, but now, he has agreed a deal to join FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga instead.
The 19-year-old striker isn’t having the best of times out in France with his nation, and every time he played in the competition he didn’t look anywhere near good enough to play for Manchester United regularly.
Perhaps that’s down to inexperience and age, and he may well go on to become one of the best in the world. At this moment in time though, I’m not overly fussed to lose out on him. Particularly when you factor in both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will get a reduction in game-time if he joined.
Schalke themselves couldn’t help but take a little dig at United as they confirmed the move, by confirming the fact that Embolo did indeed turn United down to seal a move to Germany.
