Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal met the media ahead of the Newcastle clash tomorrow at lunchtime, and confirmed that the club will be without four players for the visit – but only one of which is due to an injury problem.
Phil Jones has an ongoing blood clot in this leg that is set to keep him out until the middle of September, and even after that date it could take him another few weeks to get up to match speed.
David de Gea’s situation hasn’t changed, and Louis van Gaal reiterated that the Spaniard will not be considered for selection until after the transfer window closes on September 1st – meaning his first game of the season could be at home to Liverpool.
Marcos Rojo still isn’t match fit. He joined the tour late due to his participation in the Copa America over the summer, but is yet to play a competitive minute of football for United this season due to excellent performances from both Daley Blind and Chris Smalling at the heart of the defence.
Last but not least is Marouane Fellaini who is facing the find game of his three-match ban.
All three of these will add something to the starting line-up. De Gea is obviously one of the best goalies on the planet, whereas Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones both bring that intensity and passion which is often needed as the season heats up.
