Manchester United aren’t ready to use Anthony Martial in a deal with Chelsea to sign Willian.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, per the Daily Star. Apparently, the club believe that Martial is worth more than the £60million that it’d cost to lure Willian to Old Trafford.
Furthermore, the United hierarchy aren’t ready to sanction a deal for Martial that’d mean the Frenchman would stay in the Premier League. Obviously, they’d much prefer to see him move abroad, so he cannot hurt them domestically.
Personally, I do think that the writing is on the wall for Martial. It’d be a huge shame to let him leave, but there just isn’t room in the squad for he, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez.
For my money, it would be Martial who’ll be sold. We’ve all seen what Sanchez can do on his day, whereas Rashford is a homegrown product, and someone who Jose Mourinho trusts wholeheartedly.
It does make sense to let Martial leave, and use the money to bring in an elite level right-winger. Be it Willian or someone else, that’s an area of the field that does need working on. Whether we like it or not, it’d just be daft to keep him on solely to stop another European club benefit from his talents.
