Manchester United offer striker higher contract but he’s decided to reject club: report

Manchester United’s interest in Romelu Lukaku has been well documented recently, with Jose Mourinho looking to bring in a striker this summer after our struggle for goals during his first season in charge. However, it looks as though our attentions will now turn away from the big Belgian.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, who say that Lukaku will turn down a £200,000-a-week contract from United, in order to move back to Chelsea; who have £150,000-a-week on the table for the 24-year-old.

The report adds that the Old Trafford club will now focus on a deal to bring in Spaniard striker Alvaro Morata instead.

Honestly, I personally always felt like a deal for Lukaku was going to be unlikely. It was Mourinho who sold the former Chelsea striker when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge, and of course the forward is going to have doubts about linking back up with the self-proclaimed Special One.

With that said, I would have absolutely loved him at the Theatre of Dreams. He’s always right up there when it comes to the Golden Boot chase, and this season he found the back of the net an extremely impressive 25 times in the Premier League.

I guess the only good news is that United have been alerted that he prefers Chelsea quite early, and they can get right on with looking at other suitors.
