Manchester United on the verge of securing first January signing – report

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of landing their first signing of the summer, according to the Sun on Sunday. The English publication say that Benfica’s teenage sensation, Renato Sanches, is closing in on a move to Old Trafford.

There have been plenty of links to Renato Sanches over the last few weeks, with a whole host of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the talented teenager, however it didn’t look like any move would be made until at least the summer.

Rumours have suggested that Sanches, 18, is set to cost the eventual buyer in excess of £30-40million which is a massive amount of money for a man of his age. It can work out, similarly to how Anthony Martial’s move went, but it can also be a recipe for disaster if the start of Memphis Depay’s is anything to go by.

Personally under the current circumstances, I’d much prefer us to go after proven quality rather than gambling on talent.
