Manchester United open to selling struggling defender in January window: report

Both AC Milan and Valencia are interested in signing struggling defender, Matteo Darmian, according to The Independent.

Furthermore than that, Jose Mourinho and the Old Trafford hierarchy are willing to part with the right-back, who they signed from Torino back in 2015.

Although Mourinho has been in charge for eighteen months now, he’s still not completely happy with the squad as he looks to trim it down to a 22-man roster.

When Darmian first came to Manchester United, he looked like the answer to our right-back problems for the first few months. Ironically, things went downhill rapidly following Alexis Sanchez absolutely bullying him at The Emirates, during a comfortable 3-0 victory for The Gunners.

Antonio Valencia has certainly taken over that role and made it his own, with Darmian now a bit-part player, with most of his opportunities coming in the left-back position.

Obviously, the 28-year-old won’t be happy with sitting on the substitutes bench, and perhaps a move away is best for all involved. United will be getting a decent transfer fee for him, Darmian will be playing regularly and the buying club will be getting a good player, so I’m all for a move taking place this month.
