Manchester United open talks with Roma about Kevin Strootman

The summer transfer window has only just slammed shut, and already there are talks of Manchester United continuing their summer spending spree. According to the usually reliable Telegraph, talks between AS Roma and Manchester United have already taken place, regarding the transfer of Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Kevin Strootman is a Louis van Gaal man. So-much-so that Strootman’s injury forced Van Gaal to completely restructure his side pre-World Cup, switching from his preferred 4-3-3 to the 5-3-2 formation that he is also currently adapting at Manchester United.

The 24-year old is set to cost United around £25million in January, which could be seen as excellent business or a big risk due to the cruciate injury he is currently returning from. Whilst United could’ve probably landed their man this summer, he wouldn’t be available to play until November at the earliest, so hanging on until after Christmas is probably a smart move.

The Telegraph go on to say that United plan to land ‘one Luis Suarez [marquee signing] every year, as part of a new business model brought to them with the big-money kit deal Adidas have laid out on the table.
