Manchester United planning January raid for talented AS Roma man: report

After a poor summer transfer window, it seems as though Manchester United are already looking towards January to add to the playing squad.

That’s according to The Sun, per Calciomercato, who says that the Red Devils are plotting a winter move for AS Roma midfielder, Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Pellegrini, aged just 22, is growing in reputation despite not being a week-in-week-out starter for the Serie A club. United are next in a long line of clubs to show an interest in his services, and what an addition he’d be.

First and foremost, this tells me that Jose Mourinho has identified the midfield as a problem area. On paper, we do look strong in the middle of the park, but more often than not, the players haven’t shown their full ability when it matters most; take Paul Pogba for example, he has been the epitome of inconsistent.

There would be a risk in acquiring Pellegrini. He’s young, and will have his troubles, particularly with moving to a new league if the deal does indeed go through.

For now, all we can do is stick with the current crop until January and then re-assess the situation in a few months time.
