Manchester United are readying a huge £30million offer for Borrusia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, according to the Daily Star. Louis van Gaal is hoping to tempt the German giants into selling their star man, before making a move on other potential targets such as Ajax’s Daley Blind.
Mats Hummels was part of the World Cup winning German squad that demolished Brazil 7-1, and he also got his name on the scoresheet twice throughout the tournament. At 26, he’s approaching the peak of his career and at the moment he is one of the best centre-halves in world football.
It is believed that the player himself would be open to a move to Old Trafford, but as you’d expect, Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell him. Dortmund are becoming known as a club who do eventually lose their star names, after selling both Gotze and Lewandowski to their biggest rivals Bayern Munich in sucessive seasons.
Hummels is a ball-playing centre-back, and he’d suit Louis van Gaal’s new 5-3-2 system perfectly. His tenacious defending, combined with superb ability in the air means he’d suit the Premier League down to a tee.
