Manchester United are considering making David de Gea their highest earner, with a bumper new contract for the world-class 27-year-old.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who are citing reports coming from De Gea’s homeland of Spain.
It’s pretty common knowledge now that the goalkeeper has been United’s only real standout performer over the last half-decade. His contract expires next summer (although the club do have the option to extend for a further year if they so choose), and it’s about time that he was paid handsomely for his sheer brilliance.
We’ve avoided Real Madrid’s pursuit of Big Dave, eventually, they had to settle on a move for Thibaut Courtois. Now, let’s pay the man the money he so richly deserves and tie him down to a deal that’ll keep him at Old Trafford for his best years.
You’d imagine that, at the moment, both Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba are earning move than De Gea. If we’re looking at performances alone, the pair don’t even come close to matching the #1. We’re lucky to have him, let’s do all we can to persuade him to sign on the dotted line. I struggle to imagine where we’d be if we didn’t have the best shot-stopper on the planet in between the posts.
