The first dreaded international break of 2017 is rapidly closing in, with Manchester United set to go on a two-week hiatus following the Middlesbrough game this weekend. Before that, was the announcement of the squad from boss Gareth Southgate.
Manchester United’s official Twitter account have confirmed that five reds will join up with Southgate and the rest of the Three Lions, and they are all richly deserved.
Chris Smalling has become an England regular of late, so he has been called up. Phil Jones must be chuffed to bits at his call-up as well, as injuries haven’t really seen him play for the national team recently. The same can be said about Luke Shaw.
Marcus Rashford hasn’t featured for his club all that much, but the fact he has earned a spot in the squad tells you all you need to know about his talents. The final man included is Jesse Lingard, who has turned into a very important player for Jose Mourinho this season.
Congratulations to @LukeShaw23, @PhilJones4, @ChrisSmalling, @JesseLingard & @MarcusRashford on being named in the latest @England squad! ? pic.twitter.com/wKKCtytUn5

The only other Manchester United player who was perhaps in with a shout was Wayne Rooney, but his absence makes it sound like our captain is still out injured. So hopefully, he’ll be back fit when domestic football returns at the start of April.
Good luck, lads!
