Manchester United have been told that they’ll need to pay around £88million if they want to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.
That’s the view of Spanish media outlet AS, translated by The Metro. The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu, and has only managed twelve goals during an injury-hit campaign.
However, if they’re to let him leave, Los Blancos will demand the same transfer fee that they bought him for from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2013.
The article does add that United are unlikely to meet said asking price, which certainly makes sense given Bale’s horrific injury record over the last few years.
If their demands can be lowered, however, I wouldn’t mind taking somewhat of a punt on Bale. On his day, he’s a truly world-class individual who could add potency to an already excellent Manchester United attack.
The only issue is that it’d probably mean saying goodbye to either Anthony Martial or Juan Mata would be on the way out. If it’s the former, I’d imagine there would be a few unhappy reds amongst the terraces come the start of next season.
