Manchester United ready to activate £38million release clause in defenders contract

Manchester United didn’t invest whatsoever in the summer, with Louis van Gaal unable to bring any players in due to the difficulty of luring people in in the middle of the season. However the summer is expected to be a big one for the club, whom simply have to spend due to inept performances on the pitch.

According to AS in Spain, Manchester United are prepared to meet the £38.7million release clause current in Aymeric Laporte’s release clause at Athletic Club Bilbao. The 21-year old has emerged as one of the finest central defenders in the game despite being such a tender age.

However they’ll be stiff competition for his signature with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City also interested.

Louis van Gaal will love him because he has the ability to play the ball out from the back with both feet, and he could well be an excellent long-term partner for Chris Smalling, rather than persisting with Daley Blind in that spot.
