Manchester United have identified Southampton’s Cedric Soares as a summer transfer target.
That’s according to the Daily Mirror, per The Metro, who adds that Jose Mourinho sees the right-back as the ideal cover for Antonio Valencia.
Understandably, the manager is keen to ease the burden on veteran Valencia, and signing Cedric would be an excellently astute signing.
The report reckons that the man from Portugal would cost around £20million and I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that Cedric has been amongst the best full-backs in the Premier League this term.
Both offensively and defensively, Cedric would bring energy aplenty to the table, while possessing excellent positional sense; which is key in any Mourinho side.
This is a player who’d be an underrated, but welcome addition to the Old Trafford setup. He’s a full-back who could drift in and out of the side when the manager sees fit. Valencia certainly deserves the burden on his shoulders lightening somewhat, so why not bring in a 26-year-old who has a European Championship winners medal under his belt?
Obviously, Southampton would like to keep ahold of Cedric but the fact they relegation is looming for them may take the decision solely out of their manager’s hands…
