Last summer, Manchester United gambled big on Memphis Depay, bringing in the Dutch winger from PSV for £25million. Although the 21-year old has shown glimpses of his talents at times this season, he hasn’t done it anywhere near consistently enough.
On top of that, Depay’s off-field attitude has come into question by Ryan Giggs, who has reportedly lost complete faith in the Holland international.
Now, Manchester United are ready to cut their losses on Depay, if the latest reports coming out of the Metro are to be believed. They say that United are ready to swap him for Southampton’s Sadio Mane – who was a reported transfer target last summer.
Mane, 24, is having an outstanding season for Southampton, but his manager Ronald Koeman is a big fan of Memphis Depay, and he could well be tempted in swapping the two players when the transfer window opens this June.
Its a tough one with Depay. We all know he can do it, but he just needs to knuckle down and focus solely on his football over the next twelve months. Louis van Gaal has shown plenty of faith in his compatriot at the start of the season, and he’ll definitely get another chance to prove his worth; He just has to be ready to take it.
