Manchester United have been chasing that marquee signing all summer, but as we enter into the final stretch of the transfer period, it doesn’t look as though the club and their fans are going to get their wish – despite the fact that the Dutch media think otherwise.
According to the Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Louis van Gaal is keen on bringing a world class attacker into Old Trafford this summer, worth up to £73million.
Reports in this morning’s Manchester Evening News via Club Call. are suggesting that Louis van Gaal’s former international player, and vice-captain, Arjen Robben is on top of that hit list.
Robben, 31, is one of the best players in European football and has been consistently up there for the last five years or so. His time at Bayern Munich have been the best years of his career, and he could be willing to move to Old Trafford for the chance to reunite work Louis van Gaal whilst picking up a huge payday.
There is no doubting Arjen Robben’s talents, but throwing a lot of money at someone that old could be a huge risk. He doesn’t have long left in him as it is, and they’ll be no sell on value for Manchester United if it doesn’t work out for the speedy winger.
