Manchester United Football Club have sold off Morgan Schneiderlin already this window, with Jose Mourinho not looking too active in the market in terms of bringing players in. However, that’ll likely change come the summer, and it looks as though the self-proclaimed Special One is going big…
Earlier in the week, the Independent newspaper reported that Manchester United are planning a deal to bring in Atletico Madrid’s star man, Antoine Griezmann.
The 25-year-old Frenchman has turned into a real leader out in Spain, and his profile on the global stage has grown massively. Now, it looks as though Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the #7, although it won’t be easy.
Now his current boss Diego Simeone has finally spoken out about the situation, and it certainly gives Manchester United a huge boost. The coach says that he will not tie any single player down, and he all-but-confirmed interest in Griezmann from some of the biggest clubs on the planet.
“I don’t tie anybody down,” Simeone is quoted as telling reporters, by the Manchester Evening News. “I simply keep working to continue getting better for the sake of the club.”
“He is in an extraordinary moment, is working well, has got back on the scoresheet and his form is good. It is normal that the best teams in the world want him.”
“I am not surprised that the teams who are looking are the ones who can afford him.”
At the end of the day, Manchester United have an absolute embarrassment of riches at their disposal, and they are one of a select few clubs who can afford to buy Griezmann.
Obviously, Atletico are not going to let him leave on the cheap, but if the Red Devils can pull it off, what a massive statement of intent it would be.
He’s a footballer who would improve any side in world football, just imagine a front four of Griezmann, Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic. That certainly gets the juices flowing.
