Manchester United spent £12million to bring in Matteo Darmian from Torino last summer, with the Italian making an excellent impression during his first few months at the club. However, he struggled in the second half of the season, and that has led to rumours about his future.
Now today, the Daily Express say that Antonio Conte wants to bring him to Chelsea this summer, in a shock move to bolster his defensive options.
Conte and Darmian are currently working together whilst with Italy at the European Championships, and the pair will obviously know each other’s tactics and style of play inside out.
However, it would be a huge mistake on Jose Mourinho’s part if he were to sell Darmian after just one season. The 26-year-old is extremely versatile, and would be able to acquit himself nicely in the system of the self-proclaimed Special One.
Hopefully the club decided to give him at least another twelve months to prove his worth before shifting him on.
