Manchester United to rival Chelsea for £53million-rated defender: report

Manchester United are ready to challenge Chelsea for the signature of the £53million-rated defender, Alex Sandro, according to the Daily Mirror.

Manager Jose Mourinho has identified the Brazilian left-back as the man to solve his problem in that area of the field, despite a huge upturn in form from the Englishman recently.

Although the Red Devils are keen on signing the 26-year-old, their interest isn’t expected to be firmed up until the summer, which is obviously a more realistic chance at signing Sandro, as it’s notoriously tough to buy players in the mid-season transfer period.

Both Mourinho and Antonio Conte are currently embroiled in a battle of words, and it certainly looks as though that fight is going to continue off the field now too. It’s a war that the United man simply has to win as we certainly need some consistency in the left-back role.

In the modern-day game, the full-back has a hugely important job on both sides of the ball. So much of the attack is now reliant on getting the ball wide and exploiting the space and Sandro is an absolute master at that. He certainly won’t come cheap, though.
