Manchester United see their move for defender blocked by club board

Manchester United Football Club didn’t sign anyone during the January transfer window, despite the best efforts of the club and board. Early on in the day, reports emerged regarding a move for Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy regarding a short-term loan deal.

However late in the day, Debuchy eventually signed a deal with Ligue 1 club Bordeaux, and according to the BBC, Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board blocked his move to Manchester United; Despite wanting the 30-year old to stay in the Premier League.

Obviously this makes sense. Come May, Manchester United and Arsenal could well be rivals for the top four, and you’d understand their reluctance to let him join United.

It seems like United weren’t all that interested in bringing anyone in desperately, because if that was the case then the club would have certainly pushed for new faces much earlier in the window.
