Jose Mourinho had men in attendance at a game in the Portuguese league this weekend, as Manchester United scouts were keeping tabs on Goncalo Guedes – dubbed the new Ronaldo. That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who say a move could happen as early as January.
Club officials were present at the Estadio Da Luz to watch Benfica beat Feirense by a convincing 4-0 scoreline, and had an eye on the 19-year-old Guedes who plays as a winger.
The young man has only recently penned a new five-year deal at Benfica, but the club themselves believe they’ll do well to keep him at the club anywhere close to that expiry date – and the only real benefit they’ll get out of him signing a new deal is a huge transfer fee.
Portugal has always been good to us in terms of signatures. Both Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo came from there, as they have a rich history of producing world class footballers that are capable of mixing it with the very best.
