Manchester United Football Club have made a slow start to the 2018/19 campaign. Jose Mourinho has probably let the summer transfer window frustrations boil over.
However, planning for the next transfer window has already begun, with Red Devils scouts watching Lille striker Nicolas Pepe in action. That’s according to French media outlet Telefoot, per Caught Offside.
Pepe, 23, is also being eyed by Arsenal, with United considering making a move for the forward as early as January. Rated at £26million, it’d be a deal worth three-times less than the move to bring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford; meaning there is far less risk involved.
My main concern would be the fact that does United really need another striker at this point? The priority, in my mind at least, simply has to be a right-winger or a centre-half. While it’d be nice to bolster the attack, it’d probably spell the end of Anthony Martial’s United career. I know who I’d rather have…
I’m not doubting Pepe’s talents, either. He already has senior caps for the Ivory Coast, and the big-club interest does tell you everything you need to know about his talents. Personally, I think we should be looking elsewhere, but who knows what Mourinho is plotting at this point? Particularly as it’s so early on in the season.
