Manchester United’s on-field performances have been heavily criticised over recent weeks, and rightly so too. This is believed to have stemmed from Louis van Gaal’s strict training regimes, with people saying that the Dutchman has lost the dressing room.
However Chris Smalling has responded to those rumours, completely denying that the player have given up on the manager, and reaffirming that they are still firmly behind Van Gaal.
When asked whether the squad have given up on Van Gaal, Smalling said: “No, that’s silly.”
“If anything we are all playing for our own futures as well, so there’s not a case of no one not playing for the manager.”
At the end of the day, even if they have given up on Louis van Gaal, the players aren’t going to admit that randomly to the media because that’d just further fuel the fire, and the pressure would mount up even more.
