Manchester United’s form, particularly in the Premier League, has been pretty awful recently. Things don’t get any easier for Jose Mourinho’s men, with a game against an in-form Arsenal who are looking superb under Unai Emery. Before the game, The Gunners’ star-striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has fired a warning to the Old Trafford club.
The man from Gabon has been scoring goals for fun, including tearing apart Tottenham at the weekend. His pace, directness and goalscoring prowess make him a huge danger. If the United defence isn’t at their best, and Aubameyang starts confidently, it could be a long evening for the Old Trafford faithful.
The ex-Dortmund man has admitted that he’s not yet at 100% which is somewhat a scary prospect, but he’s coming to the Theatre of Dreams in the hope that his side can scoop all three points and further dampen the spirits around Salford Quays at the moment…
“I think I’m not at 100% but it’s coming. It’s coming and against Spurs, I felt very good on the pitch,” Aubameyang said, per the Manchester Evening News.
“I’m really happy because my best form is coming. We knew that if we won this game (against Spurs) we’d be in the top four. It’s great now.
“We have to look forward because we have an important game on Wednesday. We know that it’s tough to stay in the top four.
“It was tough, derbies are like this and it was very important that we won. But the next game is more important. So we need to continue like this, to believe.
“We have to go to Old Trafford to win. As we played today, we also have to play in the next games.”
In terms of where this stacks up, this game is right up there amongst the most important. Win, and we’re back within five points of Arsenal and the top four. Lose, and we’re eleven adrift. Taking victories against your rivals, particularly at home, is something that United have to get back into the habit of.
With that said, I’m just not confident at the moment. Mourinho’s team haven’t given us any reason to be. You look at the dross football coupled with the turgid results that are following. One North London side have already come to Old Trafford and beat us 3-0, and if we play like that again, a similar result may follow.
The lads have to go out feeling confident and ready to win. Thankfully, Romelu Lukaku scored last time out so hopefully, he’s rediscovered his shooting boots and start finding the back of the net with regularity again.
