Manchester United seriously considering 49-year-old as Mourinho replacement: report

Manchester United were on somewhat of a resurgence over the past month or so, with Jose Mourinho seemingly getting a better tune out of several key players.

However, a drubbing loss away to Manchester City seems to have brought the Old Trafford club right back down to earth… Which has led to the self-proclaimed Special One’s future being in doubt once again…

Now, Gazzetta Dello Sport, translated by the brilliant Sport Witness, are claiming that United are ‘truly thinking’ about appointing the 49-year-old Antonio Conte as Mourinho’s replacement at the Theatre of Dreams.

The ex-Arsenal man hasn’t been in a job since leaving Stamford Bridge, as it seems as though he’s waiting for the right opportunity to arrive at his doorstep.

There is no doubt that Conte would snap up the United job. He’d get a hefty wage, be able to work with some world-class players, while also getting the chance to show Chelsea that they were wrong to let him go…

Personally, though, I’d feel disappointed if Conte were hired. It’d be more of the same-old-same-old. We’ve tried defence-first managers before, it hasn’t worked since Sir Alex Ferguson left. I’d love to see an attack-minded coach given time to do a proper job and get United back where they belong.
