Finally! It looks as though we’re getting somewhere in regards to the Alvaro Morata transfer saga. According to The Sun, Manchester United are expected to announce his signing on Thursday – just two days away from now. The report adds that ‘significant progress’ was made regarding a deal over the weekend.
The Sun claims that Real were holding out for £80million whereas United valued the Spaniard at £60million, but Morata and his representatives have held talks with the Madrid club and things are seemingly moving in the right direction.
So, it looks like we’re nearing the completion of our second major signing following a move for Victor Lindelof earlier in the window – and it’s a deal that is much-needed.
Jose Mourinho will be desperate to bring in a new striker to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goals tally, and Morata, 24, found the back of the net on 20 occasions last term despite not playing every week. To me, that definitely bodes well.
With the squad jetting off for their pre-season tour this coming Sunday, you’d expect that Edward Woodward is pushing to get a deal done beforehand, so the striker can get involved with his new teammates and get some minutes under his belt in various friendlies.
