Manchester United and Manchester City are set to do battle for the signature of Barcelona player, Ivan Rakitic. According to The Express, the Croatian hasn’t impressed Luis Enrique since his £14million move in the summer, and there are doubts about his future at the Camp Nou. If the right offer comes in, Barca are prepared to let him go as early as January.
Rakitic has already played 20 times for the Catalan side, but despite that there are concerns from pundits, the club and fans alike. Many expected him to control games more than he has done, and they believe he doesn’t really fit into Barca’s philosophy. The player himself is also unhappy at often being left out in favour of an ageing Xavi Hernandez.
United tried to sign Rakitic back when he left Sevilla in the summer, but instead the 26-year old opted for Barcelona. They could face competition in January though, as Manchester City will be looking to replace Frank Lampard who is expected to depart when his loan deal runs out.
