Manchester United set to clinch major signing within 48 hours: report

Manchester United have been embroiled in yet another transfer saga with Real Madrid this summer, this time, the man in question is Alvaro Morata. There have been some heavy links to the 24-year-old striker, and now we’ve been given another positive update.

It comes from Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, translated via the Daily Post. They write that a deal for the Spaniard could be complete within 48 hours, before adding that a move is ‘very close’.

Jose Mourinho needs to bring in more firepower, particularly with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract not being renewed. The influential Swede found the back of the net on 28 occasions last term, and he was by far and away our top goalscorer.

When you compare that to Morata’s 20 goal haul, you’d say the Spaniard has a pretty comparable season given the fact that he spent a lot of the time sitting on the bench – and that’s probably one of the main reasons as to why the striker wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

For me, Edward Woodward simply has to pay whatever it takes to get this deal done. Morata is a big-game player with all the attributes to succeed in the modern day rigours of Premier League football. I’m sure the deal won’t come cheap, but if any team in the sport can afford to pay the transfer fee, its Manchester United.
