Manchester United’s debut season under Jose Mourinho was a successful one. The self-proclaimed Special One brought two major pieces of silverware to Old Trafford, but our form in the league simply has to improve. Before we get another crack at that, though, we have the transfer period to look forward to.
Although we haven’t made any signings as of yet, that hasn’t stopped the press linking us to multiple names. The latest to crop up is that of Bolton Wanderers star, Max Broughton.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United, along with Everton and Tottenham are showing an interest in the supremely talented central midfielder.
The 16-year-old has been making a name for himself in Bolton’s academy, and his talents have also been recognised at youth international level as he has played for England’s U18s.
Obviously, moves like this are more for the future rather than the here and now. Promoting youngsters and giving them an opportunity at the highest level has always been part of United’s mantra, and it is nice to see that Mourinho is intent on continuing that trend.
As always, it’s tough to work out just how good of a player Broughton will be in a few years time and there is somewhat of a risk involved in making moves like this. It’s definitely one worth taking, however, because if we let him slip through our fingers and he proves to become one of the best players in the country we’ll only regret it…
