Manchester United set to go head-to-head with Chelsea over striker signature – report

Manchester United came into the season with just two senior strikers in the squad, with Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial leading the line. Problems have been highlighted recently however, as the pair both missed the clash against Watford, leaving Memphis Depay up front on his own.

Louis van Gaal is clearly keen to sort that problem out in January, and the latest reports from The Mirror suggest that Manchester United are set to go head-to-head with Chelsea for the signature of Southampton’s Sadio Mane – whom United were interested in over the summer.

The Senegal international has been stunning at times this season. He was a key man in Southampton’s demolition job away at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season, and he looked fantastic against Manchester United too.

He knows the Premier League and is still young at just 23. Louis van Gaal has often highlighted the need for pace in the side and Mane would certainly bring that to the table. Personally I feel he’d be a fantastic acquisition.
