Manchester United are set to hand a first-team debut to Diogo Dalot in the Champions League tomorrow.
The Red Devils take on Young Boys in an eagerly anticipated clash, with United trying to kick off their European campaign with a much-needed victory.
Before the game, The Sun reckon that 19-year-old Dalot will start at right-back – presumably to give Antonio Valencia some much-needed rest.
Dalot joined United from FC Porto in a deal worth around £19million. However, he has spent the summer injured. Jose Mourinho has nursed him back to fitness by utilising him in a couple of U23s games.
Now it looks as though the man from Portugal is to get his full debut; and what a time to get it.
The Champions League is a special competition. Dalot is probably chomping at the bit. It’s nice that our first fixture is an extremely winnable one. This will probably be his most comfortable evening for the tournament’s duration. It’s an excellent fixture to ease him into things in.
Following that, provided Dalot plays well, he can look towards taking on Derby County in the Carabao Cup next midweek. Who knows, he could well force Mourinho’s hand and make himself undroppable… Let’s face it, Valencia isn’t getting any younger.
