Manchester United set to offload Juan Mata for £20million

Manchester United signed Juan Mata from Chelsea just under a year ago now, for a then club fee of £37.1million. It only seems like yesterday he was flying into Carrington via private helicopter, all suited and booted up and winning the hearts of United fans from minute one.

However, his experience at Old Trafford could well be cut short by new boss Louis van Gaal. According to The Express, Manchester United could be willing to accept as little as £20million [a £17million loss] for the Spaniard.

Mata made a flying start to his United career, showing an excellent run of scoring form – particularly in the Premier League. However, his performances haven’t reflected that, and after a lacklustre start to the season, he could find himself out of the exit door as early as January.

The potential suitors include former club Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Juventus interested in his services. All would be good moves for the 26-year old, and although it’d be sad to see him go, its probably in the best interests of all parties.

Would it be right to let Mata go? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.
