Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been handed a huge personal boost in regards to his international future.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the shot-stopper has been given assurances about his position in the team by manager Luis Enrique.
For whatever reason, De Gea’s performances for his country don’t live up to that for United. That was evident during the World Cup as several huge mistakes were made. Questions were raised about whether he is good enough for the #1 role; although us Red Devils fans know just how good he is.
I’m pleased that Enrique is keeping the faith with De Gea. Dropping him now would only lower his confidence, now, he’s been given a morale boost and no doubt he’ll repay that trust in him.
The good news for us is that if the poor performances do continue, perhaps potential buyers of De Gea will look elsewhere. I guess that as long as he’s putting in the brilliant displays for us we’re not all too fussed what happens for Spain. That’s unless you’re a Spaniard, and a United fan, of course…
