Manchester United should replace Mourinho with Pochettino, pundit says

Manchester United suffered the worst home defeat in recent memory on Monday evening. Jose Mourinho’s men looked lost, particularly in the second-half of the 3-0 drubbing to Spurs.

That has raised questions about the self-proclaimed Special One’s future. Personally, I’m still fully behind the man from Portugal. Our problems run deeper than the coach, at this point.

That hasn’t stopped talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy from laying into a man he used to idolise. The radio-host reckons the Red Devils should sack Jose, and replace him with Spurs’ Mauricio Pochettino…

If I was in charge of United and Jose is no longer the man, which increasingly looks like being the case, I would go and get the best man right now in the Premier League: Pochettino,” he said, per the Manchester Evening News live blog.

“He is pound-for-pound the best manager, for the budget he has or hasn’t got, and what he has done with that squad since he has been there. He has improved them.

“Can you imagine if Pochettino had the budget that Jose has had at Manchester United?”

The first thing I’d note: Would Poch even want to leave White Hart Lane? The Lilywhites are on the up, thanks to the work the man from Argentina has put in, whereas United are on the decline; that’s before you mention the swanky new stadium that is close to being completed.

If he does come, what’s to say that we’ll return to the dizzy heights that we’ve become used to. He hasn’t won anything with Spurs, don’t forget. Plus, it’ll take him time to develop players, bring in his own tactics and ideas. Heck, it could take years, are United going to be happy with that? Probably not.

You have to say that he is a great manager, though. Spurs are flying high under his tutelage. It’s all his doing, you have to give him credit for that. I just don’t see him leaving – particularly at this stage in the season when his side are joint-top.
