Manchester United shown interest in four Real Madrid players this summer

Manchester United were clearly hunting that marquee signing all summer-long, with Louis van Gaal keen to add a big name to the squad to boost not only the players but the fans too. Sadly that didn’t happen but it clearly wasn’t for the want of trying.

A centre-back seemed to be top priority early on in the window, with Louis van Gaal chasing the signature of Sergio Ramos before he penned a new deal at the Bernabeu.

Their chairman, Florentino Perez, has admitted Manchester United shown an interest in three other Real Madrid players this summer.

“We know that United showed interest in Bale, Benzema and Varane.” Perez told Cadena Ser.

United were well known to be keeping an eye on Gareth Bale but it was always clear that the Welshman wanted to stay in the Spanish capital and silence a few doubters.

Karim Benzema was touted for a move away from Madrid all summer but he quashed those rumours late on in the window as a move didn’t come to fruition.

Perhaps the surprise on this list is the young centre-half Raphael Varane. The Frecnhman is touted as one of the best prospects in world football at the moment, and it wasn’t so long ago he was after a move away from the Spanish capital due to a lack of game time.

He’d improve any side in world football, but it looks as though Real Madrid have done enough to convince the youngster to stay for another season at least.
