Manchester United Football Club could be about to lose one of the biggest legends they’ve had on their books in recent years. In an exclusive, talkSPORT says that Everton are expecting Wayne Rooney to make a sensational return to Goodison Park, with a deal ‘almost inevitable’.
The 31-year-old forward began his career with The Toffees, and that is when he burst onto the scene before United made their move for him. After spending a decade with the Red Devils, winning all there has to be won in the game, he could be about to call time on his life at Old Trafford.
Last season was very difficult for the man from Croxteth. He struggled to break into the team at first, and when he did play, he looked a yard off the pace.
It sounds harsh, but he looks finished at the highest level and I’d be surprised if Everton are really that keen on taking him back.
For United, it’d be a huge result to get him off their books early, because he’ll be on an absolutely colossal wage and I’m 100% sure when I say that his weekly paycheque could be much better spent elsewhere.
However, it would present United with another issue, because they would be losing both Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the same season; and they’d have to bring in two attacking players rather than just one.
