Manchester United’s David de Gea has demanded a huge wage increase if he is to remain a Red Devil. That’s according to The Sun, per the Daily Mail.
Apparently, the Spaniard has seen massive contracts handed to both Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, and feels he’s worth somewhere around that wage bracket, wanting to almost double his wages to £350,000-a-week.
This is a player who’s improved year-on-year at Old Trafford, eventually becoming the best shot-stopper in world football. We’ve seen De Gea make some incredible saves that has led to matches (and trophies) won, and if anyone is worthy of a colossal sum of money it’s this man.
Whatever it takes to keep Real Madrid at bay, I’d urge Manchester United to pay it. De Gea currently has eighteen months left on his current deal at the Theatre of Dreams, so now seems like the perfect opportunity to negotiate terms and get him tied down for another couple of years at the very least.
The scary thing is that De Gea’s only 27. He still has perhaps a decade of top-level football left in him, and I’d love to continue watching him develop at Old Trafford rather than elsewhere.
