Last summer, Jose Mourinho played an absolute blinder when he sanctioned the move to bring in none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer. The veteran scored 28 goals across a stunning debut campaign, which was ended abruptly when he suffered double ligament damage.
A few weeks ago, news broke that the 35-year-old will not be offered a new contract at Old Trafford, which makes a whole lot of sense considering we don’t really know when he’ll be able to take to the field again.
Now, more news has surfaced and it comes from Spanish media outlet Don Balon, as per The Sun. Incredibly, they are stating that Ibrahimovic told his agent, Mino Raiola, to try and get him a move to Real Madrid; but it failed.
Any potential move that would see him switch to the Santiago Bernabeu was an absolute non-starter, as Madrid’s moves for both Alvaro Morata and Kylian Mbappe are up in the air.
To me, this just sounds bizarre. Why on earth would Ibrahimovic think that he could somehow force his way into the best club side in the world whilst suffering from a long-term injury, at his age.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Zlatan and I always will, particularly after such an outstanding season. There was no way this move is going to happen, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just paper gossip.
