Manchester United star will soon renew contract at Old Trafford

Manchester United Football Club have dug their heels in over the sale of David de Gea right until the last minute, and in the end the deal couldn’t be done in time due to Real Madrid’s dithering on transfer deadline day as they didn’t leave themselves enough time to complete their end of the paperwork.

It now looks as though the 25-year old is primed and ready to return to his #1 spot in-between the sticks, and even further than that – he could pen a long-term contract at the club in a dramatic turn of events.

According to the Spanish publication Cope, David de Gea will ‘soon’ renew his deal at Old Trafford, meaning we could have his services beyond next summer.

The reasoning as to why he wants to renew is unclear. Whether or not he has been told that he will not be played unless he pens a new deal, or if Real Madrid have given up hope on signing the Spaniard completely remains to be seen.

Whatever the case, if David de Gea does sign a new deal the ball will immediately be back in Manchester United’s court and they’ll have much more power and leverage when it comes to negotiations.
