Manchester United were heavily linked with a move to sign Ousmane Dembele in the summer transfer window. It seems that interest is still there…
Apparently, both United and Chelsea are being kept informed of Dembele’s situation at FC Barcelona. It’s also stated that the Catalan giants could be forced to offload Dembele if their contract standoff continues.
Dembele has been in better form recently, however, if the talented Frenchman doesn’t commit to fresh terms, time may be winding down on his career with the La Liga giants.
Understandably, Barcelona are looking to protect an asset that they paid £135million to sign. The last thing they’d want is to lose Dembele for nothing.
Barca better act quick, though. When this summer rolls around, Dembele will be into the final year of his contract. This time next year, Dembele will be free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-contractual agreement to move in 2022’s summer for free.
Should United be at the front of that queue?
Well, it’s certainly an option worth exploring. However, United are in a position of luxury here. First and foremost, I’d be patient and see how Amad Diallo is getting on. After all, why would United go out and sign Dembele if they have someone equally as talented already at the club?
There’s also a major injury issue with Dembele. We’re talking about someone who is guaranteed to miss lengthy periods of football over the course of a season. Is that something United should just ignore?
I like Dembele, I think he’s a brilliantly-talented player on his day. He reminds me of Nani, though. Inconsistent. That’s a problem if we’re wanting to challenge for titles.
If the price is right and United still have a right-wing void going into the summer then maybe look into it. If there are other options out there, though, I’d pass on this one…
