Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Harry Maguire. The 25-year-old is set to stay at Leicester City, with Claude Puel confident of keeping him at the King Power.
That’s what The Guardian are claiming, with interest in the 25-year-old clearly heightening following a simply stunning World Cup with England.
The Red Devils were linked with heavy interest in Maguire, regarding a £65million deal, but to this point nothing has gone through. Time in the transfer window is now dwindling down, with Jose Mourinho and Edward Woodward still struggling in the transfer market.
Maguire would be perfect. Although he’s young, the Englishman has shown real leadership qualities. The Leicester man can also play out from the back which is a huge bonus, while also carrying an obvious threat from set-pieces. The one they call ‘Slabhead’ would immediately improve United into a better defensive outfit. It seems a no-brainer to pursue this transfer right down to the wire.
Whatever happens, United definitely need to sign a new centre-half. Maguire or not, it has to happen. Things have gone from bad to worse back there, and if we enter the season with the current crop, we’ll continue to ship needless, silly goals that will cost us football matches.
