Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial wants to leave the club this summer, according to his agent.
The Guardian says that the Frenchman has grown increasingly disillusioned under Jose Mourinho, and will seek a transfer away from Old Trafford.
Since the turn of the year, Martial hasn’t been able to win his place back in the team, despite some sub-par performance from Alexis Sanchez at times.
There is no doubt that the 22-year-old is an unbelievably gifted footballer and obviously, it would be a shame to see him leave.
With that said, there just isn’t enough spaces on the team-sheet to keep everyone happy. There is the aforementioned Sanchez, plus Marcus Rashford, who’s also ahead of his French counterpart in the pecking order.
Honestly, it seems as though Martial has made his mind up and he wants to leave. You can’t really blame him for that, but forgive me if I’m not crying about him going. If he doesn’t want to stay and fight for his place, then let him depart.
Mourinho knows exactly the sort of footballer that he wants, and if Martial doesn’t fit that bill then so be it. I do hope that when he inevitably leaves, he doesn’t stay in the Premier League; although the Red Devils may not have a choice if the right offer comes in.
